Announcements
Welcome!
All students new to public schools in California who speak a language other than English at home and all returning students in the ELD program, until they qualify to exit the program, are required by law to take an English language proficiency test each year.
New students will take the CELDT to determine their level of English proficiency and the results will be used to determine the amount of language support they receive during the school year. The official results will be sent home as soon as they become available, which is usually by the end of January.
New this year: ALL students in the ELD program will take the summative ELPAC in the spring. It will test each student's progress towards acquiring English proficiency and the results will be used to determine the amount of support he/she will receive in the 2018-2019 school year, or if the/she is ready to be reclassified as fluent in English and qualified to exit the program. The official results will be sent home as soon as they become available, hopefully by the end of the school year in early June.

Book Buddies Program at the Arcadia Public Library
The Arcadia Public Library offers a free one-on-one reading program for 4-8 year olds from October-May. If your child is older than 8, just explain that he/she is learning English and would benefit from being read to by a native speaker. If they have space, they may let him/her join the program. Please look under "Arcadia Public Library" in Links on the right on the page called "Children's Events." They also offer many other programs for children of all ages, including homework help, so our local library is a fantastic resource!
